The final UNWTO- ICCA Meetings Industry Masterclass of 2019 was held at the Hilton Batumi, Georgia on 5 December 2019 with the attendance of over 120 private and public sector professionals representing different regions and cities of Georgia. Meeting industry representatives from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Armenia also attended the master class.
The Master Class opened with the welcoming speeches of Mr. Tornike Rizhvadze, Chairman of government of Ajara and Mariam Kvrivishvili – GNTA, Head of Administration.
UNWTO Director for Europe, Alessandra Priante, opened the Masterclass with a presentation of the UNWTO and the meetings industry, where she acknowledged ICCA, thanking the organisation for being an active affiliate member of UNWTO.
Delivered by ICCA’s Regional Director Europe Elif Balci Fisunoglu, the interactive seminar facilitated the creation of an important network amongst the private and public sector in Georgia and sought to enhance the destination’s competitiveness, to intense interest and appreciation from the participants.
Fisunoglu shared meetings industry insights on why destinations are focusing on this sector and how to research and bid to win future meetings. She also gave an outline of the current industry trends explaining how destinations are linking their economic and knowledge clusters to meetings when bidding.
