January of 2020 will remain in my memory as the most intense month in my nearly 23 years at ICCA. If I would have to use a metaphor, I could easily compare it to the level of intensity a mother experiences while welcoming her new baby into the world.
Months of preparations and hard work, anxiety and excitement, uncertainty if all will be well, but doing your best. And then the moment it all comes to fruition, the moment you lay eyes on your new-born, your heart swells with joy, you are excited and on an adrenaline rush. Forgotten are the sleepless nights and hours of labour and the only emotions are those of positivity and joy and you want to shout about it from the rooftops.
Pardon my poetic lamentations, but it was simply how it felt at the time. How does all the poetry translate into what happened in practice?
On the 8th of January 2020, we launched the ICCA Association Community. Through this new portal associations do not have only access to their own meeting information but also to the Big Data tool, other association meetings information and the destination comparison tool. They can invite their colleagues to the Community and ensure there is an ever-growing community of association executives familiar with ICCA and ICCA members, and become part of the discussions of the future of association meetings.
Just as a reminder the Association Community is open only to non-profit associations who are not managed through 3rd parties and their meetings must match the ICCA database criteria. The annual costs for joining are 250 EUR.
And with the launch we have started seeing encouragements, questions, support and most importantly associations joining the Community.
It was overwhelming to see the continued support of key associations and long-time supporters of ICCA including: ISTH, International League of Epilepsy, IADR, IFALPA, Euroheat and Power, ISSVD, European College of Sport Science, World Federation of Consuls, African Women in Leadership association, European Society of Pathology, The International Ecotourism Society; International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, International Society on Hypospadias, IFFAS, International Studies Association, HSG, ICAR, ISME, Zonta International and the Association for Teacher Education in Europe - ATEE. A huge thank you for your support and welcome to the ICCA Global Community!
Your voices will be heard in shaping the future of association meetings and we trust that you are just the core of a growing group of associations which will help steer ICCA and its members into a new era!
A huge thank you goes also to the ICCA Board working group on Association Relations who have been with me on this journey every step of the way.
Finally, we are currently working on partnership models where ICCA members will be able to help spread the word and financially enable some of their key association contacts to join the community. To find out more about it please email Ksenija Polla, CMP!
Thank you all for your help in making this a reality and success!
With best wishes,
Ksenija Polla, CMP
