ICCA takes a leading role in creating sustainable meetings as the 2020 GDS-Index Benchmark Goes Live

The COVID outbreak and global environmental changes provide an opportunity and a necessity to reinvent our industry, and for ICCA to develop a new leading role in introducing a new sustainable vision for the international meetings industry.

Using the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and after having audited all activities at the most recent ICCA Congress in Houston, we will implement sustainable initiatives for our own events and stimulate and inspire the leading global destinations, suppliers and associations in the international meetings industry to become more sustainable in their meetings and other activities.

ICCA works closely together with the GDS-Index, which is operated as a multi- stakeholder partnership founded and endorsed by IMEX, MCI, European Cities Marketing and ICCA. It was created in 2015 by the ICCA Scandinavian Chapter members.

We are now happy to announce that our partners at the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index), announce growth, launch the updated 2020 criteria, and opens the new benchmarking period for business tourism and events cities.

We recommend members to be a part of such initiative and include sustainability not only in their meeting processes, but also in their selection criteria when choosing meetings destinations and venues.

Together, we continue to engage, inspire and enable destinations to become more regenerative, flourishing and resilient places to visit, meet and thrive in.
