This question is asked during every training, conference session, and webinar I present, without fail. Rumor has it that it is illegal to donate leftover event food, and this rumor persists despite the facts. Recently, I had a convention service manager at a large hotel tell me it was against the law. I talked to him about the Bill Emerson Food Donation Act and asked him to bring me the law he was referring to so we could sit down together and discuss it further. Later that day, he came back and explained that it wasn’t actually against the law, just against that hotel’s policy. The food was “repurposed” to feed the hotel staff.
