This month, we get to know The Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development of Moscow a bit better with a Q&A below:

1. What was your motivation to join ICCA?

One of the key tasks of the Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development of Moscow now is to promote Moscow as a MICE destination. The membership in ICCA gives us a lot of opportunities: the access to the database of association conferences for its attraction to Moscow, the information about the ambassadors, and research of the associations. What is more important, the membership in ICCA will let us be involved in the networking process with other international representatives of the meeting industry.

2. Tell us your story. How did the Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development of Moscow get started?

The Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development of Moscow was founded in 2018. At that time, after successfully holding the FIFA World Cup, it became obvious that Moscow had a huge potential for attracting a wide variety of tourists. And such potential required a systematic development, as tourism affected almost all spheres of life of the capital and Muscovites. Therefore, it was decided to create a Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development of Moscow. From 2021, the Project Office is also responsible for attracting MICE events to the city.

3. What sets Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development of Moscow apart?

The Project Office is responsible for promoting the city of Moscow as a tourist and MICE destination worldwide. It aims to increase the flow of domestic and international visitors, as well as to promote the local travel industry, including regions, attractions, hotel chains, bars, restaurants, tourism companies, among others.

4. What is your favourite success story from your organisation?

In 2019 and in 2020 Moscow became the World’s Leading City Destination by the World Travel Awards. In 2021, the Gala ceremony of World Travel Awards will take place in Moscow

5. What can we expect to see from the Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development of Moscow in the future?

In the future, the Project Office will continue to launch various digital projects and conduct communication campaigns both for the Russian and foreign tourists. Moscow is ready for further growth of the tourist flow. It has the necessary infrastructure and we consider the development of tourism and MICE to be one of the key tasks, because this industry is one of the drivers of economic development.

6. What is an industry challenge your organisation is facing currently?

Today tourism and MICE industries around the world are facing the same problems.  In this difficult period, it is important to exchange experience and ready-made solutions in the field of digital tourism, to look for new opportunities for cooperation at the interregional and intersectoral level, and to interact with international partners.
